TEN CRITICAL QUESTIONS ON CURRENT GEOPLOITICAL AND NATIONAL ISSUES – 154
1. Can India-China relations truly normalise without a final settlement of the boundary dispute?
Answer: Complete settlement may take time, but stable relations require credible peace along the border. The latest Special Representatives' talks focused on boundary delimitation, confidence-building and border management. Although disengagement was completed in late 2024, over 50,000 troops reportedly remain deployed on either side, showing that de-escalation is incomplete. In my view, India should follow engagement with deterrence. Trade, visas and diplomatic exchanges can gradually improve, but they cannot substitute for border stability. The objective should be to prevent local military incidents from controlling the entire relationship while ensuring that normalisation does not weaken India's territorial interests.
2. What do the acquittals in the Khargone riot cases tell us about India's criminal justice system?
