1. Can India convert its demographic dividend into Viksit Bharat merely through skill development?
Answer: Skill development is essential, but it is not sufficient. India’s demographic dividend will become an advantage only when skills are matched by productive jobs, quality education and fair opportunities. The Prime Minister’s emphasis on AI training, competitive-exam coaching, sports and emerging sectors such as drones, biotechnology and electric vehicles reflects this challenge. In my view, India must simultaneously improve learning outcomes, apprenticeship systems, entrepreneurship and labour-intensive manufacturing. Examination credibility is equally important because young people must trust institutions. A large young population becomes an economic strength only when people possess relevant skills and realistic pathways for upward mobility.
