1. Why should Parliament be the main forum for examining allegations of excessive police force?
Answer: Parliament is the principal political forum for holding the Executive accountable. If serious allegations arise about police action during protests, the government should explain what happened, who authorised the action and whether established procedures were followed. At the same time, the Opposition must allow debate to take place rather than convert accountability into continuous disruption. In my view, parliamentary scrutiny works best when questions are precise and answers are on record. If wrongdoing is established, administrative or judicial action should follow. Democratic accountability requires both a government willing to answer and an Opposition willing to engage substantively.
