Saudi Arabia–Pakistan–Türkiye Joint Defence Agreement
Context
Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye signed the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement on 7 August 2026 amid heightened tensions in West Asia. The agreement states that an attack on one member would be treated as an attack on all three, giving it a collective-defence character broadly comparable to NATO’s Article 5 principle. Türkiye has described the pact as defensive and not directed against any particular country.
