Rajasthan Revokes ‘Two-Child Norm’ for Local Body Elections
The Government of Rajasthan recently approved a major policy shift by removing the “two-child norm” as a qualification requirement for contesting elections to local bodies and Panchayati Raj institutions. The decision was taken by the state cabinet under the leadership of Bhajan Lal Sharma, which considered the rule outdated in the present demographic context. The change will be implemented through amendments to the Rajasthan Panchayati Raj Act, 1994 and the Rajasthan Municipalities Act, 2009.
