Pseudolaguvia khairii: A Newly Discovered Freshwater Catfish from Odisha

Researchers have recently discovered a new species of freshwater catfish, Pseudolaguvia khairii, in the Budhabalanga River of Mayurbhanj district, Odisha, within the Similipal Biosphere Reserve landscape. The discovery has been published in the international taxonomic journal Zootaxa. The species is named after Khairi, the famous orphaned Royal Bengal tigress raised by conservationist Saroj Raj Choudhury and his wife Nihar Nalini Swain, who became a symbol of wildlife conservation and human-animal harmony in Odisha.
