For FY 2026–27, an allocation of ₹25,000 crore has been made for nine hill states, including Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and several North-Eastern states.
The scheme focuses on building critical infrastructure such as roads, bridges, power systems, and digital connectivity in geographically challenging terrains. It also aims to bridge fiscal gaps arising from low tax bases and high infrastructure costs in hill regions. Emphasis is placed on environmentally sustainable development, ensuring that projects align with fragile mountain ecosystems.
