Parichha Dam Recognised as a World Heritage Irrigation Structure — 2026
Context: The historic Parichha Dam/Weir in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, has been selected by the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID) as a World Heritage Irrigation Structure (WHIS). The recognition highlights its nearly 140 years of continuous service to the drought-prone Bundelkhand region. The formal WHIS Award-2026 is scheduled to be presented at the ICID Congress in Marseille, France, on 14 October 2026.
