NITI Aayog School Education Quality Index and Punjab’s Performance
Context
Punjab has recently highlighted its strong performance in NITI Aayog’s 2026 assessment of school education, with the State government stating that Punjab has moved ahead of traditionally high-performing States such as Kerala on several important learning and school-quality indicators. However, it is important to distinguish this 2026 education report from the original School Education Quality Index (SEQI) released by NITI Aayog in 2019. NITI Aayog’s official website still lists the 2019 SEQI as the formal index and notes that its indicators are being revised.
