NAMASTE Scheme
The NAMASTE (National Action for Mechanised Sanitation Ecosystem) Scheme is a Central Sector initiative jointly implemented by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment (MoSJE) and the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs (MoHUA). It aims to eliminate manual scavenging and ensure the safety, dignity, and empowerment of sanitation workers. The scheme replaces the earlier Self-Employment Scheme for Rehabilitation of Manual Scavengers (SRMS) and has been expanded (2024–26) to include waste pickers as beneficiaries.
