MEC & Cyprus

Cyprus has signalled strong interest in joining the India–Middle East–Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), viewing the corridor as a strategic opportunity to reinforce its position as a European gateway and logistics hub. IMEC, announced at the 2023 G20 Summit in New Delhi, is a major trans-continental connectivity project connecting India with the Gulf and Europe through multimodal transport, energy, and digital infrastructure. Its MoU was signed by India, UAE, Saudi Arabia, France, Germany, Italy, and the European Union. A 2024 Intergovernmental Framework Agreement between India and UAE further advanced its implementation. The corridor aims to reduce transit time, reduce dependence on the Suez Canal, improve supply-chain resilience, diversify routes, and promote cross-regional economic integration. It consists of an East Corridor (India–Gulf) and a North Corridor (Gulf–Europe). Its three key pillars—transportation, energy infrastructure, and digital connectivity—are designed to make IMEC both commercially viable and strategically robust.
