The India–Seychelles Joint Military Exercise “LAMITIYE-2026” marks the 11th edition of the bilateral defence exercise conducted to strengthen strategic and military cooperation between the two countries. The exercise is being held from 9 March to 20 March 2026 at the Seychelles Defence Academy (SDA) and lasts for 12 days. The term “Lamitieye” in the Seychelles’ Creole language means “friendship,” symbolizing the strong defence partnership between the two nations.
A key feature of the 2026 edition is that it is the first tri-services exercise, involving the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force together. The Indian contingent includes personnel from the Assam Regiment, the naval frigate INS Trikand, and an Indian Air Force C-130 transport aircraft. On the Seychelles side, personnel from the Seychelles Defence Forces (SDF) are participating. The exercise involves Field Training Exercises (FTX), tactical drills, lectures, demonstrations, case-study discussions, and a validation exercise, focusing on sub-conventional operations in semi-urban environments and counter-terrorism scenarios.
