In November 2025, India’s industrial sector recorded a strong rebound, with the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) growing by 6.7% year-on-year, the highest expansion in 25 months. This marked a sharp recovery from the revised 0.5% growth in October 2025 and reflected renewed momentum in domestic demand, inventory restocking after the festive season, and improved manufacturing performance. Compared to November 2024, when IIP growth was about 5%, the latest reading shows a clear year-on-year acceleration and represents the fastest expansion since October 2023.
The manufacturing sector, which carries the largest weight in the IIP basket (about 77%), was the primary driver, registering 8.0% YoY growth. Strong gains were seen in basic metals, fabricated metal products, pharmaceuticals, automobiles, capital goods, and consumer goods. Mining output also rebounded, growing by around 5.4%, reversing earlier weather-related disruptions. Electricity generation remained in contraction, declining by about 1.5%, but the narrowing pace of decline suggested gradual normalization.
