INDIA’S FIRST DIGITAL SOIL TEXTURE MAP — A NEW TOOL FOR PRECISION AGRICULTURE
Context
In 2026, ICAR–National Bureau of Soil Survey and Land Use Planning (NBSS&LUP), Nagpur released India’s first national digital soil texture map. The initiative was highlighted during the Bureau’s Golden Jubilee year. NBSS&LUP had earlier prepared national soil resource maps and, more recently, a digital soil depth map using thousands of soil profiles and machine-learning methods.
