India is increasingly positioning itself as a global electro-tech manufacturing and supply hub, driven by its transition towards clean energy and advanced electronics. As per recent global assessments, India is adopting a new industrialisation pathway based on solar energy, batteries, and electric mobility. Solar power now contributes nearly 9% of electricity generation, and the country is approaching a peak in coal dependence. The rapid growth of electric mobility—particularly India’s global leadership in electric three-wheelers (about 60% market share)—reflects structural change in the transport sector.
Historically, India’s industrial model relied heavily on fossil fuels and import-dependent electronics. However, over the last decade, the electronics sector has expanded sixfold to nearly $130 billion, laying the foundation for electro-tech industries. Policy reforms such as Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes, the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), and initiatives like Design Linked Incentive (DLI) have encouraged domestic manufacturing, innovation, and skill development.
