India Code Portal: AI-Enabled Access to India’s Laws

1. Context

The revamped India Code Portal was launched on 13 August 2026 by Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal in New Delhi. The upgraded platform aims to make access to Indian laws simpler, faster and more citizen-friendly through AI-enabled search and improved digital accessibility.

2. Background and Salient Features

India Code is the Government of India’s unified digital repository for Central Acts and subordinate legislation, State Acts, and Union Territory laws and regulations. The revamped version has been developed by the Legislative Department, Ministry of Law and Justice, with technical support from the National Informatics Centre (NIC). Its major features include AI-assisted search, semantic search, speech-based search, improved navigation, legislative history, links between Acts and subordinate legislation, QR-enabled access and integration with the e-Gazette ecosystem. It also seeks to provide AI-assisted multilingual access in all 22 languages of the Eighth Schedule.

AI-generated results should show the official source. I would also collect user feedback and conduct independent checks so that citizens can trust the portal.
