India and Russia have taken a decisive step in civil aviation manufacturing through a 2025 MoU between HAL and Russia’s PJSC-UAC to produce the SJ-100 (Superjet-100) passenger aircraft in India. Signed in Moscow on 27 October 2025, the agreement enables HAL to manufacture the aircraft for India’s domestic market, with future export potential. This marks a historic revival of full-scale passenger aircraft manufacturing in India after the AVRO HS-748 programme (1961–1988).
