GANGA FLOODPLAINS REDEFINED: THREE-TIER FLOOD-ZONING FRAMEWORK
Context: The Ministry of Jal Shakti has notified the River Ganga (Rejuvenation, Protection and Management) Authorities (Second Amendment) Order, 2026, revising the regulatory framework for the floodplains of the Ganga and its tributaries. The amendment was notified on 7 August 2026 and published in the Gazette on 10 August 2026.
