Parrot Bornavirus-4 (PaBV-4) is a highly infectious single-stranded RNA virus belonging to the Bornaviridae family and the species Orthobornavirus alphapsittaciforme. It is the principal cause of Proventricular Dilatation Disease (PDD), a fatal neurological and digestive disorder affecting psittacine birds such as macaws, cockatiels, budgerigars, lovebirds, and parakeets. The virus was first identified globally in 2008 and has since been reported in North America, Europe, Israel, Japan, and South Korea.
