Context
Exercise PRAGATI 2026 (Partnership of Regional Armies for Growth and Transformation in the Indian Ocean Region) is a multinational military exercise hosted by the Indian Army at the Foreign Training Node (FTN), Umroi, Meghalaya, from 20–31 May 2026. The exercise brings together India and twelve partner countries from South Asia, Southeast Asia and the Indian Ocean Region, reflecting India’s growing role in regional security cooperation.
Background
India has traditionally promoted defence diplomacy through bilateral and multilateral military exercises. While security cooperation in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) has largely focused on naval partnerships, PRAGATI 2026 marks an important expansion into cooperation among land forces. The exercise aligns with India's broader vision of a secure, stable and rules-based Indo-Pacific region.
