Discovery of Alpheus madhusoodanai
The recent discovery of a new pistol shrimp species, Alpheus madhusoodanai, in the backwaters of Kochi highlights the rich and underexplored marine biodiversity of India’s coastal ecosystems. Named in honour of noted fisheries scientist B. Madhusoodana Kurup, the species belongs to the Alpheidae family, commonly known as snapping or pistol shrimps.
