Brahmaputra Riverine Lighthouse Project
Context and Significance: The Government of India has recently launched the Brahmaputra Riverine Lighthouse Project in Assam to improve navigation safety along the Brahmaputra River (National Waterway-2). This initiative represents India’s first attempt to install riverine lighthouses on an inland waterway. The project aims to enable 24-hour safe navigation, especially during night-time and adverse weather conditions, and to strengthen the Brahmaputra as a major trade and transportation corridor in Northeast India.
