Background
The discovery was made through a collaborative study involving Netaji Mahavidyalaya, The University of Burdwan, IIT (BHU), and Hiroshima University, Japan. Scientists isolated the bacterium from polluted water samples using the Enrichment Culture Technique. It belongs to the Phylum Actinobacteria and the Genus Brachybacterium. The species has been named Brachybacterium netajii in honour of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.
