The Annual Survey of Incorporated Services Sector Enterprises (ASISSE), launched by the National Statistical Office (NSO) under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), represents a major step in strengthening India’s statistical ecosystem. It is the first comprehensive nationwide survey focused specifically on incorporated service sector enterprises, covering sectors such as trade, transport, IT, hospitality, education, healthcare, and real estate.
Historically, India’s statistical framework had robust data systems for manufacturing through the Annual Survey of Industries (ASI) and for unincorporated enterprises through ASUSE. However, a critical data gap existed in the incorporated services segment, despite the service sector contributing over 50% of GDP. Policymaking in this domain often relied on estimates rather than granular enterprise-level data.
