METALS AND NON-METALS
1. Introduction to Metals and Non-Metals
Metals and non-metals are two major classes of elements found in nature. They are classified based on their physical and chemical properties. Metals are generally hard, shiny, malleable, ductile, and good conductors of heat and electricity. Examples include iron, copper, aluminium, gold, and silver. Non-metals are usually dull, brittle, and poor conductors of heat and electricity. Examples include carbon, sulphur, oxygen, and hydrogen. These elements play an important role in everyday life. Metals are used in construction, transportation, and electrical wiring, while non-metals are used in fuels, fertilizers, medicines, and various industrial processes.
